The battery was named in G.O. 194, 27 Dec 1904, after Colonel [[Lewis O. Morris]], [[7th U.S. New York Volunteer Artillery]] (Capt. [[1st U.S. Artillery]]), who was killed in action at Cold Harbor, Virginia, 4 Jun 1864. Battery construction started in 1904, was completed in 1904 and transferred to the Coast Artillery for use 7 Jun 1904 at a cost of $ 23,000.00. Deactivated in 1946.
